7 Days Until Check In: A Checklist

  • Do I have my passport in my possession, or is it in a safety deposit box or at my parents’ house, etc.?
  • Look at your flight itinerary–does my name match my name on my passport exactly? How about the correct date of birth and gender? If not, call the airline or your travel agent. (This should always be done as soon as you get your itinerary, but it doesn’t hurt to double check.) You can’t correct anything once you’re checked in; it has to be done at the ticket counter on the day you leave.
  • Do I have a copy of my itinerary, confirmation emails, vouchers and/or coupons? Do I have a place to stay every night, and do I know how to get there? Make an additional copy and leave it with or email it to an emergency contact.
  • Did I call my credit/debit card companies to let them know I’m traveling so they don’t cancel my cards?
  • Make a checklist of the important things you’re bound to forget (especially the things you’d use the morning or day of takeoff ) such as:
  1. Chargers: phone, external battery, iPod, iPad, computer, e-cig
  2. Toothbrush
  3. Hairbrush
  4. Deodorant
  5. Makeup
  6. Razors
  7. Adapter/converters
  8. Shoes
  9. Sanitary items
  10. Hair straightener/ blow dryer (if you bring them)
  11. Bobby pins/hair ties
  12. Passport and Insurance cards
  13. Copy of passport/copy of insurance cards
  14. Money
  15. Nail clipper/nail file
  16. Cigarettes/e-cig liquid
  • Check the weather!! Make sure what you are packing is weather appropriate! You don’t want to have to buy winter boots or a coat once you get there if it’s snowing and you only brought spring clothing!
  • Laundry-make sure everything is clean and fresh! 🙂
  • Pack your items, and weigh them so you’re within the weight limit–always check the airline website to make sure your bag has the proper weight and dimensions.
  • Register with the State Department. This may seem like more work than it’s worth, but I can assure you, it’s for your own safety in the event of a coup/uprising, terrorist attack, natural disaster, or even if you get mugged/robbed, etc. It’s worth taking the time to sign up and fill out the forms.
  • Make sure your bills are paid for the time you are going to be gone, and/or make sure auto pay is set up.
  • Also, if you don’t have roommates, don’t forget to stop the mail and/or newspapers!
  • Now that you know what you have or need, jot down that last minute shopping list! Right now mine consists of:
  1. Ibuprofen
  2. Tums
  3. Purse (from Target)
  4. Long-sleeved undershirt

You’re soooo close! You are allowed to be super excited!
